VR has arrived, but designing a good VR game is still a journey across mostly uncharted territory.
At GDC 2016, Schell Games’ Jesse Schell and Shawn Patton tried to shed some light on the path to a good VR game by sharing what they’d learned in designing the Bond-esque VR escape game I Expect You To Die.
They touched on how to avoid motion sickness, how to focus on the aspects of game design VR is good at (and avoid what it’s bad at), and why immersion (or that elusive sense of “presence”) trumps gameplay in VR.
